CEU's Energy Policy Research Group hosted a high-level roundtable debate on gas supply security in Central Europe as the crisis in Ukraine escalates and potential supply disruption from Russia appears ever more likely this summer. The May 20 “United in Diversification? Implications of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict on Central and Eastern Europe’s Gas Supply” event included government and industry experts and addressed the critical geopolitical issues as well as practical, day-to-day supply strategies.

Hungary's Ambassador-at-Large for Energy Security Anita Orban, outlined Europe's search for an integrated solution to securing reliable energy supply at the Central European University on Feb. 25, taking attendees through a tumultuous decade of politics and policy.

On 6 October 2011, DPP faculty member Andreas Goldthau participated in a one-day "Global Energy Strategy Simulation" in Istanbul, organized by the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSIAD) and run by the Texas-based global intelligence company Stratfor.

The event, which drew an audience of roughly 500 people, sought to simulate how major producers, consumers and transit countries would respond to fluctuations in oil prices in the future.

DPP faculty member Andreas Goldthau published a piece titled Assessing OPEC's performance in global energy in Global Policy. The article examines OPEC’s performance in regulating output and prices in the global oil market during its 50 years of existence. In addition, it discusses key trends that are likely to determine OPEC’s effectiveness in the years ahead, particularly climate change policies.

Jessica Jewell's research on nuclear energy is quoted in this week's New Scientist. Her research, conducted as a Masters' thesis in the MESPOM program at the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, focuses on launching (or continuing to deploy) nuclear power in various nations.
