EPRG and Environmental Department talks about new National Nuclear Power Programs at a conference on Energy Transitions

Jessica Jewell, an EPRG member and a PhD Student in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy presented a paper at the University of Sussex Energy Group Conference "Energy transitions in an interdependent world: what and where are the future social science research agendas?". The paper reviewed the 50 some countries that have expressed interest in developing a national nuclear power program and evaluated them for the capacities and drivers of implementation.

The Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), and the Brookings Institution, held a conference entitled "Towards a Nuclear Power Renaissance? Challenges for Global Energy Governance" on 4 - 5 March 2010 in Potsdam. The conference included approximately 40 participants from Germany, Europe and the United States.

Jessica Jewell is an alumnus (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Central European University. Her research focuses on energy security under long-term energy scenarios and as a driver for policy change. More broadly, she is interested in the interaction between national energy priorities and global energy objectives. She works in the Energy Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.

Aleh Cherp's research interest include energy security and transitions to sustainable energy systems as well as strategic environmental assessment.
