Abstract | Austria's political system, established after 1945, was characterized by an almost extreme stability, due to a process of ''historical learning''. But during the 1980s, this stabilized political system (and Austria's political culture) began to change into a system much more similar to other Western political systems in Europe. These changes can be observed in electoral behavior, within the parry system, concerning corporatism, and also in Austria's international attitude. The result can be described as the emancipation of society from the political system – especially from the specific party state, Austria had developed after 1945. |
